About us
The roots of our medium-sized family enterprise reach back to 1950 when the master baker Hans Karg opened together with his wife Babette a bakery in Wolkersdorf. It was in the 1960s, when his son, master baker Heinz Karg and his wife Renate took over the business. During the 1970s Heinz and Renate Karg enlarged continually the network of branches. Today, the company counts more than 10 branches, some with a café in the metropolitan area of Schwabach and the southern part of Nuremberg. The current owner of the company, Dr. Klaus Karg (the grandson) did not only contribute to the increase of branches, but created a second business area through diversification: 1999 was the beginning of the era of high-quality gourmet crispbread.
The “daily bread“ is our core business. The limited partnership “Dr. Klaus Karg KG” is based on two pillars: “Fränkische Dorfbäckerei Karg” and “DR. KARG – Bread of Distinction”.
The Fränkische Dorfbäckerei Karg is a traditional bakery and supplies the area with bread, crunchy rolls and delicious pastries. All freshly baked goods are sold the same day in the nearby branches. We offer customer-oriented service, i. e. our kind staff will provide you with all information you might need and our sales women are the first place when it comes to recommending culinary highlights for special events such as party rolls or wedding cakes. We also sell Franconian specialties such as Elisen-Lebkuchen in conventional and organic quality.
The brand DR. KARG – Bread of Distinction is worldwide well-known for its crispbread with its extraordinary delicious taste. The crispbread made by our master bakers is produced in organic and non-organic quality and are available as traditional crispbread slices in a 200g bag or as innovative Snack Bites size in a 150g tray. DR. KARG offers a wide product range for a broad target group in the conventional food trade as well as in the food trade specialised in organic food worldwide.
Today, the responsibility for all brands and business areas lies in the hands of Dr. Klaus Karg, meanwhile the 3rd generation of the Karg family.
The main focus lies on outstanding product quality. Such a high level can only be achieved with qualified and motivated staff and thus, our team is built of highly trained experts who are regularly trained. Our master bakers use their knowledge and skills in order to correspond to our high quality policy. A co-operatively run company encourages the staff to bring in their own ideas and creates free space for personal and professional development. In more than 50 years, we trained more than 100 young people as baker or as “Bäckerei-Fachverkäuferin” (saleswoman). Our bakers are supported by modern bakery device, electronically operated ovens and up-to-date computing.
Manual production and skilled staff combined with the usage of high-quality and strictly controlled raw materials result in a first-class product. And there’s no need to fear external controls as “HACCP”, the basis of all external hygienic requirements, is of course standard in the whole company.
In December we achieved the “Higher Level” in the IFS-certification
(International Food Standard - the DIN ISO for food processing companies) and
gained “Class A” in the BRC-certification (British Retail Consortium = the
British version of IFS). Thus, we reached the highest official standard.
Regarding the sector of our organic products, we are certified by the external
certification body ABCert corresponding to the quality standard EWG 2092/2091.
We produce strictly in compliance with the BIOLAND-regulations.
Furthermore, we are proud of our prizes awarded by DLG. All our gourmet crispbreads won a gold or silver medal in 2007.
